Sprint Race 2 - June 3, 2007- Fenton Lake, NM
Sprint Race # 2 will be held at Fenton Lake, just 1.5 hours from Albuquerque in the beautiful Jemez Mountains. This race will have some flat water paddling, some hiking/trekking, and some mountain biking. True to Adventure Racing, we will have some basic Orienteering. You will need to know how to read a US Forest Service Map and plot points on a 1:24,000 scale UTM grid. You will need a boat, either an inflatable or hard shell kayak or canoe, PFD's, and paddles. For a team of two, two single boats are okay too. The Club has some boats to loan out for free on a first come, first serve basis. Pre-race meeting starts at 8:30a.m. and the race starts at 9:00 a.m. sharp. Cost is $45 non-members, $25 members. The registration deadline is noon on Friday, June 1st and you may register online. Please feel free to contact Steve Prickett if you have any questions.

Directions:
Please meet at the Southeast Group Shelter by the Dam. Take Hwy 550 from Bernalillo towards Cuba for about 20-25 miles. Take the Jemez Springs/Hwy 4 exit and go through the town of Jemez Springs. Approximately 6-8 miles past the Town of Jemez Springs, take Hwy 126 towards Fenton Lake. This road goes to the Lake. Fenton Lake dam is on the South end. We will meet for the pre-race meeting and to start the race at the Southeast end of the lake in the group shelter. The entrance road on the East should open by June 3, so you can drive right up to the group shelter--if this is true it will be the first Fenton Lake exit. If this exit is not available then you will need to proceed past this gate cross the little 20 foot bridge at the North end of the lake and turn left into the West side of the Lake. Go to the boat ramp area and find a parking spot. Be sure to bring $5 per vehicle for the day use fee. Travel time is approximately 1.5 hrs to the lake. You will probably want to add 30 minutes to find the parking area and move your stuff, if we have to park on the West side. You will need to carry your bike/boat/gear from the boat ramp area, east across the earthen dam, to the group shelter. All transitions will be from this group shelter. Also, I will have someone watch your stuff in case you don't have a support person.
